Alumni in the City: UW Architecture Centennial Walking Tour

BELog_AlumniCity_1

A few weeks ago on Sunday October 26th, we had a great turnout of alumni for ‘Alumni in the City’ – a walking tour led by UW Department of Architecture alumni designers offering a behind the scenes glimpse into the design of six notable projects. The projects and alumni architects included: Bullitt Center (Brian Court & Ron Rochon); Cupcake Royale (Ian Butcher); The Northwest School (Brendan Connolly); Frye Art Museum (Rick Sundberg); Seattle Central Library (Sam Miller); and the Pike and Virginia Building (Jim Olson).

Starting on Capitol Hill and ending near Pike Place Market, together in sunshine and rain we wove through Seattle’s built environment and learned what makes each building’s design distinctive. After five hours on tour and walking over two miles between the buildings, we enjoyed a much-deserved happy hour at the Elysian Bar downtown – a fantastic ending to a very fun and successful Centennial weekend! Thank you again to all who participated in the tour, and especially to the alumni architects who each gave terrific tours of their buildings!
