Museum of Chairs//WI 15
Chairs are formed by both material and cultural choices, registering the objective condition as well as the subjective variation. Autobiographical, chairs are potent legible texts, populating our myths and dreams, while providing pragmatic props to everyday life. As places to sit, chairs create an open haptic invitation of human dimension, empathetically recalibrating the room, the building, and the bity. Chairs act as evocative evidence of poetic utility.
The Museum of Chairs studio will emphasize inquiry into spatial section, structural form, tectonic syntax, material choice and design development. Studio discourse will oscillate between objective constructional constraints and subjective contextual and cultural responses.
