Mexico Abroad Program

The Mexico City Studio will be offered again for this coming Spring quarter 2014. Led by Robert Hutchison, students will travel and work in Mexico City during Spring Break. Highlights will include visits to numerous historic and architectural sites (including several Luis Barragan projects), office visits to leading architecture firms, and workshops with local architecture program(s), professors, and architects. Plans are being made to set up workshop space in the Luis Barragan Studio, located directly across the street from Casa Luis Barragan. Students will return to Seattle at the beginning of Spring quarter to develop a project based on a Mexico City site. Mexican architects involved in the workshops will be invited to Seattle for midterm and final reviews.

The studio will be open to Arch 502 graduate students, as a studio option (Arch 504), as well as 4th year undergraduate students (Arch402). Program
fee will be $1,500, to include lodging, admissions, transportation to site(s) outside of Mexico City, and workshop space. Students are responsible for purchasing airfare, meals, and in-city transportation. Robert Hutchison is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, and Principal of Robert Hutchison Architecture. He has served as Program Director for the 2011 and 2013 Mexico Programs, and the 2012 Mexico City Studio.
