Professor

Robert Mugerauer focuses on the qualitative dimensions of design, especially as they bear on environmental design, urban design, and health and well-being. His work applies current theories, including phenomenology and dynamic complexity theory, to explore the ways that social and cultural values shape our world. This includes the impact that aesthetics, ethics, spatial experience, and social justice have on the tension between traditional-local senses of place and high- technology systems. Two of his current interdisciplinary research projects involve 1) biologically-based design and 2) how to combine visualization, narrative, and scientific data to generate realistic scenarios to deal with social-environmental problems.
