The Department offers a Certificate in Digital Design and Fabrication for Architecture and Design through the UW Office of Professional and Continuing Education. This sequence of classes allow professionals in architecture, construction management, engineering, industrial design and related fields to discover how computer-aided design and manufacturing can enhance a design practice through greater flexibility and improved capabilities. They learn to design in a variety of digital environments and develop skills in digital manufacturing methods such as rapid prototyping and the cutting and milling of wood, metal and plastics. The course assignments involve designing and producing a number of projects using CAD/CAM technologies, including the creation of a building component and manufacture of its full-scale components.
